Carlton star forward Lance Whitnall has escaped without citation from an AFL investigation into how Adelaide's Tyson Stenglein was knocked out during last Saturday night's match at Football Park.

Whitnall was interviewed yesterday by AFL reporting officer Rick Lewis, who had earlier spoken to Adelaide players and officials about the incident that left Stenglein unconscious before he was carried from the field in the final term. Several Adelaide players remonstrated with Whitnall - the only nearby player - about the incident moments after it occurred.

But the investigation was wrapped up without charge for Whitnall, after the evidence gathered from Adelaide and Carlton boiled down to contact being accidental. -- MELISSA RYAN
